Rehabilitation & Reconditioning
Rehabilitation and reconditioning after illness, surgery or a hospital stay
About this service
Time in hospital, a serious illness or a long spell of being less active can take a real toll on strength and stamina. Even simple things — walking to the end of the road, carrying shopping, climbing stairs — can suddenly feel much harder.
Rehabilitation and reconditioning helps you rebuild gradually and safely, with a clear plan that takes account of your recovery and any guidance from your medical team.

Who it may help
- People returning home after a hospital admission
- Those recovering from illness, including long or complicated recoveries
- People after surgery, where rehabilitation is clinically appropriate
- Anyone who has lost strength or confidence after a period of reduced activity
Common rehabilitation goals
- Rebuilding strength and stamina
- Returning to walking outdoors and everyday errands
- Regaining confidence on stairs and steps
- Getting back to work, hobbies or caring responsibilities
- Reducing breathlessness and fatigue during activity, where appropriate
Goals are agreed together and depend on your individual circumstances; no particular outcome can be guaranteed.
